Swift Rapids on the Trent/Severn April 25, 2008 during freshet conditions in the river. Note that the water levels were low, (the first four pictures) and at the forbay of the dam where the level is about six feet below the summer time level. This may seem odd in view of existing high water levels and some flooding upstream in Lakes Couchiching and Simcoe. Between these lakes and Swift Rapids there are several bottlenecks i.e. locations where the river is narrow thus restrictive to water flow. In order to lower the lake levels, a "hole" is created at the Swift to enable drainage.
